SIL and BIL just picked up the nephews.
A hugh sigh of relief from my kids and myself.
They are just not easy boys. They have no rules or structure at home and so they don't expect to have any at anyone else's house either.
First thing the 3 year old did was tell his daddy "Aunt Kelli made me mind".
Yes I did, I made them eat lunch, go to the potty, wash hands and take naps. All of which they said "I dont have to". The kids are 3 and 4 and just now potty training.
The thing is they did it, I reminded them and they went in and did it. Once they realized that Aunt Kelli was serious and that they had to take a nap, eat, quit throwing a fit they did it.
So they aren't bad kids, but just not well taught I guess is the best way to put it. Of course SIL and BIL are both nuts and hubby agrees that the kids will be ruined the older they get.

I know a few sets of parents just like you described. My 2 yo hates taking a nap, but he knows there is NO getting out of his afternoon nap, ever. Kids need structure, routine, and rules, everyone knows this and I am not from a military family ;) I bet your up-bringing helps you out in that area!
I guess it does but I think I would be that way anyway, because kids need it. I will be homeschooling in the Fall and I know that is going to require even more structure but I am hoping since we already have some structure and schedule adding the additional wont be too much of a shock to the kids.
i know how ya feel. i also know some parents who resemble those you speak of....thats right auntie! put your foot down and make those kiddies mind.....(what would the world be like without aunties)
Good for you for putting your foot down all kids need structure and routine. ok maybe it sounds like mom and dad need ti more then them :)
I can think of some adults requiring the same thing. ; )
