Game Plan

Movies are so hard, rarely is there a good one we all enjoy. Sure the kids love cartoon movies and why I too enjoy some of them many of the cartoons find me wishing I was somewhere else. Non cartoon movies are often too old for the kids, don't keep them interested or are laced with cursing that is not needed.

Today our family date was so great. We all 4 enjoyed the movie "Game Plan" immensly. It was well written with a plot line that you think you have all figured out only to be thrown for a little loop. It is a great story, funny parts that kept even Brae entertained. I really liked it we have all decided it is one we will buy when it comes out on dvd.

Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Such a truly important cause. Education in breast cancer is such a strong part of the fight. Mamograms, self exams, etc.

Stacy at Truest Thing is having a contest to help spread the word. You can get all the details at her site.

I registered and donated $3 at Gal To Gal Walk. I had a little trouble trying to create the custom walker and ended up with an angel walker. It is only $3 and a great cause.

Another thing Stacy has is Here is a site where you can click everyday and the sponser will donate free mammograms.

Home school Coop

Tonight was presentation night for our 6 week long home school coop. Basically every Thursday afternoon for the last six weeks we have went to classes held at a local church. Each class is thought up and taught by moms or dads. I did a Geography and a Story Writing class. My friend Stephanie helped me with both classes. She is such a blessing and I am so thankful that I have her to hash out some of the home school things with. Anyway, Coop was great fun. I am going to miss it even though it made things busy at times. Now I need to start thinking of ideas for the Spring coop. Both Brittney and Braden had speaking parts at tonights presentation and did well. Braden said his numbers (with a little prompting form me) in German, and Brittney read a children's story she had wrote. Just some pics of our table showing what we had did, some of them up front, and some snapshots with their friends.

Refreshed, strengethend

A few weeks ago I entered a contest at Shannon's Blog it was for tickets to a Christian concert by a group called "Monk & Neagle". I had never heard of them, but I saw that "Mercy Me" was also going to be there, and I love them. So hubby and I made childcare plans and were set to go.

Tonight was the concert. Man oh man, I cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed it. First off we got there and I got worried, I had been told to go to the will call. I went and they said they didn't have any tickets for me...oh no...hubby started calling the cell number he had, but by the time he had started dialing the woman found an envelope. She said oh honey you didn't just get tickets you get to go back stage to. Oh wow. So we got to go to the meet and greet before the show and take pictures and talk to all the bands that were playing which were "Monk and Neagle", "Shane and Shane" and "Mercy Me". All three bands were wonderfully nice and when you met them they spoke straight to you, and you felt like you had their undivided attention.

Then the concert started...we had great seats...Monk and Neagle first, wow they were great. I really liked them. Next Shane and Shane I liked them but have to admit I liked Monk and Neagle best of those two. Then Mercy Me...wow. I so needed to hear their songs, the testimony, the words. I felt like the lead singer was speaking straight to me, when he started talking about his two year old son being ill, and about God's glory I had tears I felt so much of what I had been feeling being expressed on the stage. They have a new cd coming out in November and we will definetly be getting it. They sang three songs from it tonight. I just feel so refreshed like okay bring it on I am filled up again feeling strengthened.

Here are some pics:

Science

I hated science in school. Now teaching it to the kids I am loving it. We have been studying about Venus. Today we used a form of radar. I took two shoe boxes and used newspapers etc inside of them to make hills, valleys and poured plaster of paris over it. Did this a few days ago so it could harden for today. Then we covered the top with a towel and made a grid. The kids then used a stick with different colors on it poking it through the towel. They were able to tell the formation of the planet, where the hills and valleys were without ever looking at the actual surface. It was fun.

armed

Brae is my weapon loving boy, if it is toy weapon then he thinks he has to have it. Especially swords. When I was naive and young I thought no I am not going to let my little boy play with toy guns, etc. Whatever he will turn a straw into a dueling sword. He had a doctors appointment the other day and those are always worth prizes, we pulled into Walgreens to wait for our prescrip and he was in heaven with all the ninja swords out for Halloween. He lines them up in long rows to show off his weapon collection if he is not wearing them....This is a snap shot of him tonight. Yes those are swords stuck in his pajama bottoms, and yes this is how he runs around the house 95% of the time.

flashing lights

The town we live in is small. I am cruising through this afternoon maybe a mile from the house, and lights behind me. Crud. I tell the kids that I was pulling over because a policeman was behind me. Cop comes to the door I helpfully point out that I was right behind someone else. He said well I clocked you locked on the radar at 49. I was polite told him I wasn't going to argue with him, that I was just not paying attention and I apologized. He took my liscense. Brae is turned all the way around in his seat looking at him. He brings the license back to me makes a Sooners statement and lets me go without even a written warning. But still stressful. I wasn't sure what the speed limit was in that area and I knew hubby would ask how much over I was going so I went back to check. 45 MPH...he friggin pulls me over for 4 miles...ugh. Yes we live in a speedtrap that is well known but even I didn't know it was that bad. But anyway, we pull back on the road and Brae says "That was so cool mom, I loved seeing the lights flash and see the policeman up close". So I am telling hubby I just did it to cheer up Brae who hasn't been feeling well.

Spelling

Brittney insisted that spelling was so fun today that I had to post it...LOL

Today they wrote their words in glue and then used glitter. I put them outside for this as they aren't neat. It took several sheets of paper especially when they got to the harder of their batch of words but they loved it and it broke up the day nicely.

Memories

I guess I was suppose to for some reason remember High School today.

First at WalMart I hear a name I haven't heard in about 15 years. A nickname used from my maiden name. Was a guy I knew from high school. A blast from the past. Chatted for a few minutes caught up since I hadn't seen him in 15 years. Mostly because I live about an hour away from where I went to school at.

Then I get home, thought it was pretty cool to have run into him. Check my email and there is an email from someone else I went to school with. Had gotten my email from a mutual friend that I still keep in touch with. So for some reason I am suppose to remember highschool today.

Of course those run ins made me dig out the yearbooks. Brittney thinks my hair was the funniest thing she had ever seen. She also thinks I had lots of nerds in my class. Ugh another 5 years and it will be 20 year reunion. Of course me and my three best friends that still keep in touch have always said we will just do a trip together for our 20 year because we don't really care about seeing anybody else.

Future Criminal?

Hubby did me a great favor this Sunday and decided to help at the law office I work for by reformatting computers, etc. We all decided to go. I had work that I could do and wanted to do some organizing and filing for the attorney and regular secretary who has been sick, I gave both kids jobs as well.

Of course as can happen with computers things didn't go exactly as planned and we got tied up longer than expected. Brae got done with his and he noticed the floor safe. Talk about keeping him entertained over an hour trying to "crack the safe". The attorney that I work for thought it was funny. I told hubby I am going to buy him a safe for Christmas just to lock it and he can try to crack it. He had his ear on it listening for clicks, etc. He was definitely fascinated. Hubby said he was going to buy him a padlock to try to open, I don't know if we should encourage this hobby...LOL.

Friday Fun

Hubby was off work today. The kids had tennis this morning I took them and hubby stayed home. He cleaned house (YEAH!) it was wonderful when I got home he had even lit one of my candles.

We ate lunch and decided to go out and spend the day together. We debated if we wanted to head out of town or not. Finally decided to just stay in town went to a few stores that we don't normally get to just go and take our time looking around at. The kids got a few things, and Brittney got a new outfit which made her day of course. Dinner at Olive Garden where I blew all thoughts of watching what I am eating, etc...ugh. But oh well it was very good.

I am looking very forward to tommorow as hubby is taking the kids to the nature center...yep just him and the kids....which means...me all alone...with the new books I picked up at Books A Million today.

Plans for the weekend are pretty laid back. I am going to look at some of the cookbooks I have gathered for freezer cooking. Cook one day for a month of meals...we shall see how it goes.

A great pick me up

I came in from being gone all day to a package from Anne

I had mentioned to her awhile back that I couldn't remember how we had met. Well now I remember!

Look at the wonderful picture she cross stiched for me (it says "Friends so much cheaper than a shrink") and the great scrapbook! I am ready for another joint vacation to add to the book. We met in a penpal group for stay at home moms, and she even copied my bio and put it in the front of the scrapbook. I told Matt that tells me how long ago it was since we were just married for 5 years at the time (now it is 12).

Thanks Anne it was the greatest suprise and we have all loved looking at the book and the picture goes great in the kitchen with my tea pots.

School

Just a few pics from our school day. We ended our study on the planet Mercury today by making salt dough models. Also a pic of the kids with their sheet for their state book, we are learning all the states and capitals and doing a color sheet to add to a book when we are all done. A snap shot of Braden putting his spelling words for the week on the washer.

Feeling better

I worked at my friend's moms all day, 6 of us went together and had a yard sale. I did really good so that is always nice. It had taken us several trips taking my stuff over and my mothers stuff...all I brought home was one rubbermaid container...so year for that.

I have had such a headache and crick in my neck today I think that really added to my emotional stress freakout this morning..LOL. I still have lots to do but I am just going to have to make a list and go at it, and not worry about the things I cannot change (easier said than done, but I have to try).

Hubby kept the kids occupied all day, they ran errands, went to Chuckee Cheese as ours was just renovated and the kids loved it, did the grocery shopping so all that helped tremendously.

For the rest of the evening I do not have much planned I am wore out...tommorow will be soon enough to get more things done.

to the max

I hate these times. The times I feel so stretched, so stressed if you ask me what is wrong I would probably burst into tears, prompting you to never ask again.
I am just stressed, it is hard to explain, and good gracious I know there have been many times I have had more going on than I do now, but for some reason I feel that I am just going to lose it. It being my mind. Ugh, I know it will get better and I will get everything planned out and caught back up and under some semblence of control. But ugh right now my mind is racing with 100 different things, waiting on people to get back to me, waiting to know what may happen next. Just stressed out and feeling overwhelmed. So what do I do to make it better....I blog of course...and it actually helps.

Mess

Currently going on in my kitchen: electric skillet frying ground turkey, two skillets frying hamburger meat, a pot boiling chicken, pork chops baking in the stove, and fish waiting to go on the grill. Am I incredibly hungry? No, but, when I went to get the roast for the crock pot out of the freezer I thought, hmmm, this doesnt feel solid. Lots of things didn't feel solid...ugh freezer had quit working. Yuck yuck yuck. Lost several things, and am cooking off what I could. There were actually some things just starting to thaw so we caught it before it was even worse so that is something to be thankful for.

Hubby called a repairman and he said to wash out the coils, so did that and it is now drying, then will plug it in and try again. Better go tend to my meat fest cooking in the kitchen.

Again

I have another sinus cold. Ugh, so tired of this. It is coming on fast. I know it is allergies but I am on prescription allergy medicine, we have air filters in the house. I don't know what else to do. But yuck again.

This week is just all thrown off because of Monday, and hubby is off Friday too. Which I am glad but still throws my whole week off. Kids start their tennis clinic this Friday and we are excited. Hope it doesn't rain us out, it is suppose to rain on and off all week. I won't complain about the rain because it has brought a nice cool down with it.

Putting the labor in labor day weekend

Whew...shhh...don't tell hubby I am sitting down. Ugh we have been working I think about non stop since Saturday morning.

Saturday my parents and brother brought over a steam pressure washer. We started on our privacy fence. Right away could tell what a difference it was going to make, but time consuming to wash it then let it dry then apply the protectant on the wood. That took Saturday and into Sunday. Also on those days mowed, weedeated, cleaned the garage, priced yard sale stuff for next weekend, as well as other odds and ends thing. The fence looks I think better than the day we put it up 6 years ago...I mean wow looks like a new fence definetly worth the work. Our garage floor had paint on it in several places, now all nice and clean.

The kids got lots and lots of pool time, and a little sunburn on their noses while the adults worked.

Today my brother is coming over to bust up a part of the patio that we are going to repour and enlarge. Also lots of inside cleaning, and ugh..almost done. Deep cleaned my bathroom, the bedrooms, kids bathroom. Hubby ran some yard sale stuff over to where we are having the yard sale next weekend, and then some food up for a funeral of a beloved school teacher that passed away. Then he will be home and we will finish cleaning in the kitchen.

It was definetly a labor filled labor day weekend.

Works for Me Wednesday (Kids and Teeth Brushing)

Today Shannon is doing a Works For Me Wednesday on favorite products. I have actually had this post up before but it was about a year ago and it is still a product I love for the kids.

Most of you probably already know about this product but if you dont, you need too.

Basically my kids brush their teeth and then use the blue rinse to see how good they did, then brush again. Sometimes my kids will eat something and then go see how blue their teeth are so they can brush again. Bottom line it makes brushing fun. The dentist said he could tell they were brushing well.
